The project took place during the implementation phase of the Excellence Strategy (2019–2026), one of whose main objectives is to "promote global awareness in research and teaching." Within this framework, Erasmus+ KA171 was an important tool for expanding existing international partnerships and initiating new ones. In line with the current internationalization strategy, the focus was on the African continent, which was the most strongly represented with eleven of the nineteen countries. Within this framework, collaborations with the six African partners (now "Associate Members") of the European University Alliance CIVIS played a central role. Furthermore, the Interdisciplinary Center for Global South Studies, with partners in six countries and two continents, was an important stakeholder that was able to expand its network thanks to our project. Finally, in accordance with the Erasmus Declaration on Higher Education Policy for the period 2021-2027, cooperation with eastern neighboring countries (Georgia and Ukraine) was continued and expanded.
