Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) is one of the most internationalised universities of applied sciences in Germany, with approximately half of the degree seeking students coming from abroad. The university aims to support its internationalisation by continuously developing a strong network of partner universities abroad, in order to increase opportunities for students and academic and adminstrative staff to engage in exchange and joint research and projects with partners. As such, academic exchange forms an integral part of HSRW’s internationalisation strategy. The Erasmus+ KA 171 project concentrated on partner universities in Africa and in the Ukraine which had already been successfully collaborating with HSRW over several years. The project aimed at building the necessary structures for an even more regular and balanced long-term academic exchange between the partners, and at providing students and staff with opportunities as well as funding for a successful participation in academic exchange and international collaboration.
