In its university development plan adopted at the end of 2021, the University of Trier reaffirmed internationalization as a central element of its institutional strategy. The aim is to enable as many students as possible to gain international and intercultural experience. Since this cannot be achieved through increased mobility alone, the range of courses on offer is to be enriched by involving foreign teachers and students in teaching, as well as through teaching experience gained by lecturers abroad and internationally oriented course content. Subject-specific collaborations with Nong Lam University (Vietnam) for Spatial and Environmental Sciences, with Hebrew University (Israel) for History, and with the University of Gabès (Tunisia) for German as a Second and Foreign Language were to be resumed after the pandemic-related restrictions. Since the project had been conceived and submitted before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the previously successful university-wide cooperation with St. Petersburg State University (Russia) was also part of the proposed and approved project.
