THE ROAD intended to support and highlight the positive side of migration based on adult education because it plays an important role in shaping the future of our society, it represents a means to create inclusive societal systems through informal, formal and non-formal educational activities. Our target group was represented by Sinti and Roma women from North Rhine Westphalia region, generally speaking adult women with fewer opportunities, who for different reasons, have been facing obstacles that prevent them from having equal access to the society where they live and the labour market. In this context, our objectives were: - reaching out to Roma people, women facing fewer opportunities, encourage mutual inspiration and motivation amongst them, - support the development of a local learning environment – assist the target group to sett up a non-profit association for Roma women, meant to improve their social and professional opportunities - provide Roma women with opportunities to develop key competences they need in order to integrate and adapt to the society, including digital skills - increase the quality in the work and practices of the organisations involved
We applied for this project in order to develop an inclusive dimension, to support people with opportunities for personal, socio-educational and professional development. Adult education plays a critical role in supporting the creation of an inclusive dimension by actively addressing the diverse needs and backgrounds of adult learners. As the COVID pandemic slowed down, Europe had to face other unprecedented events like world-wide conflicts.Germany and Italy have already welcomed an important number of migrants, but many still haven’t managed to integrate. In today’s Germany Sinti and Roma are still a target of discrimination, and they face various barriers. According to statistics, there are about 200.000 Roma in North Rhine-Westphalia; in this context, we were able to identify following needs: - build long-lasting partnership and through exchange of know-how and digital transformation design activities to be able to use their results at EU level - empower people, especially women with a migrant background, support them with different training activities in order to create a local learning environment - highlight the relevance of learning, meaning that individuals will always want to see the relevance of what they learn
