Objectives

First and foremost, we wanted to further consolidate and stabilise the educational network that had already been established in a previous project with Luxembourg, as well as expand the corresponding offerings and the development of the educational network to Belgium. To this end, a multi-day and multilingual barcamp was to be organised in Luxembourg with basic seminars, hands-on workshops and open-space offerings, and multilingual training materials were to be created. The objectives were to highlight the global context of food waste, to internationalise the educational work and to enable the further training of multipliers. In addition, an understanding of shared ethical values in the form of personal consumption and commitment, political engagement and participation for a necessary food transition was to be sought. Methods of self-awareness and self-reflection should also be consciously trained.

Background

Huge quantities of edible food are thrown away every day in Europe, contributing significantly to the waste of resources and climate change. Appropriate awareness-raising and educational work can lead to a change in behaviour and a more sustainable lifestyle. With the project we applied for, we wanted to make a contribution to cross-border networking and educational work in the field of food rescue and valorisation. Through regular dialogue, the initiatives should network and address the expressed need for education and awareness-raising locally. It is also about reaching an understanding on shared ethical values, political commitment and participation. Experience has shown that different people of different origins, ages and social backgrounds come together and interact with each other when saving food. We want to utilise this potential to bring people closer together again in times of war and climate catastrophes and to strengthen the need for sustainable and personal action in relation to environmental processes.
