Objectives

VET-staff in the project got a deeper insight into chances and limits of Augmented Reality (AR); that was realised by seminars of a minimum of 4 hours duration within the range of each of the three project meetings. AR-seminars were conducted by project partner WEKIT-ECS. Project staff of other project partners only needed to bring with them AR-fit tablet PCs and AR-fit smartphones. That contributed to increased knowledge about the technical set-up of devices, the handling of the device in AR-applications, the interface with stationary computers and its data exchange, etc. Project VET staff contributed with presentations dealing with pre-requisites for regular VET-staff (i.e. VET-trainers) to apply AR e.g. individual/personal pre-conditions, necessary technical equipment (tablets, AR-glasses, etc.) and support in which VET-content is appropriate for combining it with AR. ARTVET has established a new network of AR-considering and applying VET-centres.

Background

ARTVET has been a reflex to the changing needs in work life, where in the near future approximately 9 out of 10 jobs require at least simple but up to advanced digital skills and competences according the factsheet/infographic "The Digital Skills Gap in Europe" of the European Commission. Besides, it has coped with the Osnabrück Declaration in which is declared to change VET to (digital) labour market needs as well as to offer modern digital VET. Moreover, the Digital Education Action Plan (DEAP) underlines this in its 1. priority "Fostering the development of a high-performing digital education ecosystem", when "...support digital transformation plans at all levels of VET through cooperation project". ARTVET focussed on a central emerging technology - AR - in VET and has thus coped with DEAP´s 2. priority "...to include AR and data related skills and support development of AR leaning resources for [...] VET-organisations..." and it particularly called upon "...target advanced digital skills development through steps such as extending the digital opportunity trainingship to VET learners and offer professional development opportunities for teachers, trainers and other VET-staff".
