By implementing the GASCA project, our primary aim was to achieve a significant improvement in GDPR awareness and compliance among hotel staff in Turkey and Germany. Because the issue of "personal data protection" is getting more and more important among all sectors not only in the EU but also in Turkey. The Hospitality Sector is among the ones in which cross-border personal data processing activities extensively happen compared to others. And the issue of frequent human resource mobility as well. Specifically, we aimed to equip hotel staff with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills regarding GDPR regulations, ensuring their ability to handle guest data responsibly and in accordance with legal requirements. Additionally, we aimed to foster a culture of data protection and privacy within the hospitality sector, thereby enhancing guest trust and satisfaction. Ultimately, we sought to establish GASCA as a pioneering initiative that not only addresses the immediate needs of GDPR awareness but also serves as a model for similar projects in other sectors and regions. Through effective implementation, we aimed to create a sustainable impact, ensuring long-term benefits for hotel staff in both Turkey and Germany
We applied for this project because we recognized a crucial need within the hospitality sector in both Turkey and Germany. With the increasing reliance on digital systems and the collection of guest data, it has become imperative for hotel staff to be well-versed in GDPR regulations to ensure the protection of guests' personal information. However, our research indicated a significant gap in awareness and understanding of GDPR among hotel staff in both countries. This lack of knowledge not only posed a risk of non-compliance but also jeopardized guest trust and privacy. Therefore, we aimed to address this pressing need by developing a comprehensive training program tailored to the specific requirements of the hospitality sector. Our goal was to equip hotel staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate GDPR regulations effectively, thereby safeguarding guest data and enhancing overall compliance within the industry. Through this project, we sought to empower hotel staff to uphold the highest standards of data protection and privacy, ultimately fostering a culture of trust and accountability within the hospitality sector.
