The primary objective of the Skills-Cloud project is to enhance digital proficiency in Europe’s VET sector by integrating cloud computing into its curriculum, addressing the digital skills gap, and aligning education with current labor market needs. We aimed to provide VET providers and learners (ages 16-25) with practical, relevant cloud computing skills, preparing them for roles in the digital economy and improving their job prospects in the ICT sector. Key objectives include: - Introduce cloud computing as a fundamental training module within VET, equipping educators with resources to deliver it effectively. - Enable learners to acquire in-demand digital skills directly relevant to the cloud sector, enhancing their employability. - Build synergies between the VET sector and the ICT industry, fostering collaborative pathways to ensure curricula meet actual workforce demands. - Align with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) to offer certifications that reflect industry standards and improve learners’ credentials in the job market.
Our decision to apply for the Skills-Cloud project was rooted in the urgent need to address both the growing digital skills gap across Europe and the increasing demand for cloud computing expertise in the workforce. The EC has highlighted that while 90% of jobs now require some level of digital competency, nearly half of the EU workforce lacks essential digital skills, with 22% having none at all. The ICT sector, in particular, is experiencing severe skill shortages, making it challenging for companies to find qualified talent. Upskilling VET learners (ages 16-25) in cloud computing, closes this gap and preparing a new generation of tech-skilled workers. There is a disconnect between the traditional VET curriculum and the rapidly evolving needs of the ICT industry. As cloud computing continues to grow in importance, more companies require staff with expertise in this area. Through Skills-Cloud, we supported to modernize VET by integrating a cloud computing curriculum that directly addresses industry requirements, enabling learners to gain knowledge that enhance their employability. Lastly, our project aligns with the EU’s vision for a green, digital future and helps companies reduce their environmental footprint.
