Objectives

The project aimed to enhance digital skills and employability for nurses and midwives by aligning training with European Qualifications Framework (EQF) standards. It focused on developing structured learning content to equip healthcare professionals with essential telecare and remote healthcare skills. A key goal was to strengthen digital training competences for professionals and trainers, ensuring inclusive and high-quality education. The project promoted collaboration between national and international healthcare stakeholders to support scalable and adaptable training across different healthcare systems. An Open Source Learning Repository was created to help professionals transition to digital healthcare services. In some cases, such as in Germany, the training materials were integrated into existing healthcare training programs, demonstrating the project’s potential for scalability and broader adoption by healthcare institutions across Europe. The project also aimed to raise awareness of digital skills in healthcare, empowering nurses and caregivers to adapt to new social and technological challenges in digital health and telemetry.

Background

The Telenursing project was designed to address the need for digital health literacy and telecare skills among nurses and caregivers. The COVID-19 pandemic and the aging population have increased the demand for remote healthcare services, but many healthcare professionals lack the necessary digital skills to use telecare and remote monitoring technologies effectively. The project aimed to train nurses and midwives in using digital tools for Teleconsultation, and Telemetry to improve home-based care. We explored different ways these technologies can be applied, such as remote assistance for patients with restricted mobility, which also can be expanded to support in natural emergencies, and healthcare delivery in war conditions. Through collaboration at local, national, and EU levels, we developed practical training tools to help professionals integrate telecare into their daily practice. This contributes to more efficient healthcare services, better patient support at home, and a stronger foundation for digital healthcare solutions in the future. The project also supports the broader European digital transformation strategy by equipping healthcare professionals with the skills needed to operate telecare technologies efficiently
