Objectives

Pupils should be empowered to become aware of their identity, to recognise similarities and differences and to perceive them as an enrichment, a goal that is particularly important for the multinational student body, including those from socially diverse backgrounds. Pupils from disadvantaged families should be given special support. In addition, the pupils should be given the opportunity to identify with Europe: they should not just "mentally" familiarise themselves with the EU, its countries, institutions, achievements and goals, but find a real connection to Europe. A further aim was for the pupils to recognise the advantages of democratic values and structures when learning in the community - here in the project-seminar and also internationally during the encounter weeks - and implementing the 18-month project. Both while working on the project and during the mobilities, pupils should recognise the advantages of democratic values and structures. The digital skills of all participants should also be promoted while working on the project.

Background

The Martin-Behaim-Gymnasium is a science, technology and language grammar school with Italian as a third foreign language and the establishment of the "Sezione italiana", in which students can obtain a certificate with their Abitur that gives them access to Italian universities beyond the limited quota of foreigners. The MBG has an unusually multinational student body with more than 30 nationalities. Here, the school community is particularly challenged to convey binding rules and values, while respecting individual personalities, in order to create a sustainable community (e.g. "Behaimkodex", "Schule ohne Rassismus - Schule mit Courage", Streitschlichterprogr., Arbeitskreis "Sprachsensibler UTR", "Schulparlament"). The social heterogeneity of the student body also requires special efforts to ensure that disadvantaged students also have the same opportunities (e.g. learning to learn programme; "Language-sensitive UTR" working group; financial support from the support association). Support from the booster club). Mrs Scheicher is supported by various subject teachers, the headmistress Dr Gabriele Kuen, administrative staff and the school's support association (advertising).
