Our goal was and is to foster a more active participation of young people with refugee background in mobility opportunities in Europe through voluntary services, youth exchanges, youth participatory projects, youth workers mobilities. We want to empower them to a self-determined life in Europe, promoting equal access to volunteering opportunities and mobility in Europe for all young people, and fostering a more inclusive society in which all can make a change and participate actively in shaping a society based on solidarity and dialogue. In order to achieve this goal, we identified the following issues and needs: Youth workers working with young people with refugee backgrounds are often limited to local integration processes, as they lack they necessary knowledge and European network to be able to offer a more European integration approach. At the same time, young people with refugee backgrounds often have a strong desire and/or need to move within Europe. Automatically, also youth workers want to/ need to learn more about these opportunities and support young people with refugee backgrounds to effectively to access them. Cross-border volunteering opportunities and other mobility opportunities are also actively promoted by national and European institutions (ESC, Erasmus+) for young people in Europe. The added value for the young people is enormous: increased self-confidence, new skills and intercultural competence, strengthened European identity and citizenship. Young people with refugee backgrounds also want to get involved and qualify themselves accordingly to build a self-determined life. But for various reasons, access for our target group to the various European mobility opportunities is limited: lack of target group adapted info material, communication gap, limited access to target group, limited knowledge on the applicable legal framework, lacking experiences and skills in the guidance of young people with refugee backgrounds during their mobility experience. In order to address those needs and issues, in 2021 we developed the moveurope! mobility hub framework. 2021 was more of a piloting phase in which we created our first Mobility Hub in the region we are based in, and then started scaling the idea to another region in Germany (Leipzig). This enabled us to acquire experience, get feedback, and implement pilot activities. In the frame of our strategy, we now wanted to focus on scaling this strategy to more regions in Germany, and to other countries, this being done through several activities described below, that address the needs and issues developed above. To do so, we developed an innovative training and guidance concept combining self-pace learning, digital and physical training and guidance of the moveurope! mobility hub coordinators. In the framework of this project we wanted to implement, test and consolidate this training concept for the ongoing formation of the coordinators and their guidance. Concretely, in the framework of this training project, we wanted to bring together and train a group of youth workers (as well: social workers, community leaders, mediators) to get operational as the moveurope! Mobility hub coordinators in our two pilot hubs in the Ruhr Region and Leipzig and in the new moveurope! mobility hubs in Bremen, Bologna (Italy), Grenoble (France), Arenas de San Pedro (Spain) and possible new future hubs. After the kick-off training, thanks to targeted follow-up trainings and the concrete guidance of the hub coordinators, our objective was to accompany them in the high-quality implementation of their hubs’ activities.
