The aim of the project was to bring together a total of 46 young people from Germany, the Republic of Ireland, Turkey and Morocco to deal with topics such as climate change, sustainability and globalisation. Most of the participants come from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and often have a migration background. One of the purposes of the joint meeting was to familiarise themselves with and compare the different ideas about life paths and therefore life plans. How can our diversity help us to shape a change towards a more environmentally friendly world? What opportunities do I have in my country or in the country where I live and how can I utilise them? The participants were sensitised to these topics through a wide variety of offers. Through the different approaches and values of the young people from the various countries, they learned key skills such as tolerance, intellectual and transcultural openness, the ability to reach consensus and the ability to engage in dialogue and deal with each other in a spirit of partnership and respect. At the same time, the language skills of all participants were promoted, as the activities were also carried out in several languages during the project. Overcoming language barriers and the playful use of other languages also helped participants to identify with the European idea. Participation and personal responsibility for organising their time together was demanded of the participants. Not only participating but also doing it themselves and thereby experiencing and realising the influence that each individual can have The young people developed skills and resources together and across countries and also surpassed themselves in various presentations. By demanding and encouraging co-determination, they experienced the opportunities that come with active participation. The encounters with young people of different nationalities helped them to understand European and transcultural contexts. Through this expansion of transcultural competences, social skills and attitudes were learned that are intrinsic to professional and social participation, as the avoidance of misunderstandings is more important in encounters with other cultures. At the same time, the focus was on the opportunity to develop personal conflict management strategies and gain more self-confidence in dealing with other perspectives and points of view.
