Objectives

Our project primarily pursued the following three objectives: 1. to use and revitalise war cemeteries in Germany and abroad as international learning sites for historical and political education 2. to promote young people's commitment to peace in Europe. Recruitment and retention of participants and teamers for projects with historical, remembrance-cultural and political content 3. establishing a European network of experts and organisations interested in history, remembrance culture and politics to increase the quality of historical-political youth encounters Overall, the project should help to network the Volksbund more closely with other European organisations active in youth work relating to the culture of remembrance in order to make the treatment of war cemeteries at home and abroad more present in society and to open them up as a place of learning for other partner organisations in the field of education in Europe (and beyond). Young people and young adults should be able to participate even more than before and be involved in the organisation of activities and concepts. In the youth projects, young people should be informed in a multidisciplinary way about topics such as wars, tyranny and totalitarianism. As many funding programmes have very strict guidelines regarding partner structures, e.g. only allowing certain country constellations, Erasmus funding should contribute to the creation of new partner constellations that also include countries such as Georgia. The project partners were thus able to benefit from the expertise of the participating organisations and explicitly include inexperienced project partners and enter into an intensive exchange with them.
