The youth exchange we planned and put together was based on the ideas of our youth groups that are engaged in our Dragon Legion community. We have a community Discord server on which hundreds of young people from many countries hang out and share their passion for role-playing games but also discuss a lot of other topics. In this case the creativity of our young people demanded an exchange based on creating music. With the involvement of groups from 6 countries we planned a youth exchange in which we would bring together 30 young people with a passion for music. The plan was to give the participants an opportunity to play music together and compose their own songs. A longterm plan is to turn the songs into an entire album and performing them at a youth concert in Sweden in 2026 or 2027. For the youth exchange we also implemented our goals of creating a sense of community, giving our participants an international mindset, turning them into responsible European citizens, encouraging a sense of initiative and empowerment, developing teamwork, cooperation, and friendship in an international setting, improving soft skills and social competences, acquiring cultural understanding, raising awareness of other values and beliefs, and improving language and communication skills. The participants lived together for a week. They were divided into smaller mixed teams in which they created songs and played them together. We also gave them an opportunity to record their songs in a professional recording studio in the city of Cologne. We used guided reflection sessions and discussions about the results to critically examine the experiences the youths made.
