Objectives

The decision to carry out the "No Hate with Art" project was made because young people expressed a strong interest in the topic of hate speech, which had become a prevalent issue impacting their lives. Through discussions with our partners, we recognized the potential of art as a tool to combat hate speech both online and offline. Art provided a unique opportunity for young people to express themselves fully, with creativity and passion. By providing counter narratives to hate speech, art helped to promote tolerance and acceptance, and empowered young people to take a stand against hate speech. The use of art-based tools supported the development of young people's creativity, and provided a platform for a variety of expressions, such as through photography, theater, or creative writing. This enabled young people to explore different avenues for self-expression and fostered a sense of inclusivity, where everyone could participate and contribute, regardless of language or cultural barriers. Even for those who may not have felt comfortable using English as their primary language, art-based tools provided a unique opportunity for non-verbal communication, such as through theater. This opened up new possibilities for young people to connect with others, express their perceptions and opinions, and become agents of change in their communities. The "No Hate with Art" project was a testament to the power of art in promoting social cohesion and building a brighter future for all.
