The world is changing at a very rapid pace, and we are watching new social and demographic phenomena. Working directly with local youth from small, peripherical towns and rural areas, we see the special characteristics that these places have and how it impacts young people living in them. The aim of this project was to give youth a space to exchange: visions, experiences, ideas, good practices and find ways to promote diversity, inclusion and equality in local communities. One of the main ideas was also to promote the international cooperation field and European programmes as a tool for local development for and by young people. The project's objectives were: - To raise awareness on the topics of inclusion and equality. - To understand demographic phenomena happening in smaller towns (migration, ageing, rural depopulation, repopulation). - To develop young people's personal and professional development through non – formal educational tools and methods. - To improve young people's knowledge, confidence, self-esteem and empower them to be agents of positive change in their local communities - To foster international cooperation and understanding local realities of peers while exchanging visions, experiences, ideas, good practices, and finding ways to promote inclusion and equality in local contexts. - To explore opportunities of local volunteering as tool for personal development, active citizenship, and contribution to make local communities more livable and attractive for young people. - To promote Erasmus + and European Youth Mobility projects among young people, as a tool for social inclusion, personal and community development. A long-term goal for the project is to raise cultural awareness on participants improving their understanding of other cultures, countries and backgrounds ultimately reducing the negative influences of intolerance and discrimination contributing to a common sense of belonging perfectly aligned with the European values. The aim was that the project truly contributes to an increase in active participation of young people in local youth initiatives, projects and organisations. The objectives of this project were aligned with the objectives of Erasmus+ programme and this specific key action as the main objectives thoroughly translate into improving the level of key competences and skills of young people with fewer opportunities, promoting the participation in local volunteering life as active citizens with a determinant role in social and civic life, raise awareness on social inclusion and equality topics, develop a good cooperation between organisations in the youth field operating at local level and relevant stakeholders (such as public-governmental bodies). The project promoted the involvement of young people in 3 different levels: young people as beneficiaries, young people as volunteers and young people as youth leaders. People in Motion contributes changing perspectives: young people from small towns (smaller, peripherical or rural towns) such as ours often feel "left-out" or "behind" when compared to peers living in bigger cities. Some of the identified specific needs of participants are lack of confidence in their own potential and lack of access to opportunities for international youth projects. Through the participation in the YE, young people exchanged their experiences on life in rural towns / disadvantaged areas and discovered new perspectives by learning about their European peers’ stories. Young people from the target groups have little awareness of concepts as inclusion, diversity and civic participation although they play important roles in their lives. The YE promoted the importance of volunteering locally and active citizenship for positive development of communities. The YE raised awareness about the opportunities and strengths of young people to positively contribute to their own development and that of their communities. Through this project, young people were given a safe space and support to meet, engage and exchange with youth from different countries and with different cultural backgrounds and realities; some of them from small towns. Through this exchange, young people acquired important competences and gained knowledge and awareness in topics relevant for today's Europe: in constant change, with people in motion.
