Objectives

After the experiences of successfully held youth exchanges as part of the Erasmus + and Youth in Action programs, we wanted to continue this form of transnational cooperation together with our partners and expand the network of youth work actors in Europe that has been created. The acquired skills and documented results served as the basis for the Cross-Border 22 project. Cross-Border 22 wanted to cross and open borders. It wanted to enable young people of different cultural backgrounds, educational paths and levels to experience “borderlines”, i.e. to deal with internal and external limitations. Cross-Border 22 wanted to address who they are, what they experience, how and where they live, what they dream about and what they are afraid of. According to the motto “Culture makes you strong”, Cross-Border 22 focused on youth encounters in combination with theater, dance and music. Artistic and pedagogical aspects of acting, choreography and music-making should be used to enable an engagement and exchange with one's own and other people's realities, diverse identities and cultural diversity. Barriers such as prejudices, fears or language that prevent coming together and integration should be addressed and worked on theatrically and musically. Young people should be given the opportunity to actively participate in innovative forms of art and culture. Through theater work and music, we wanted to offer a social learning space that promotes creativity and social skills. It should encourage and enable a critical examination of the past, present and future, promote interest in political and social issues and encourage humane action. They should also be given the opportunity to think about and try out how to handle data responsibly on social media. Cross-Border 22 should be an opportunity for participants to experience self-efficacy. They played an important role in the programming of the youth encounter and the development of the play. Participatory methods in planning, implementation and evaluation should ensure the participation rights as well as the rights of the young people in the project to complain and object. They should be given skills to participate in social life. There were young people who experience special limits due to discrimination, marginalization and/or disadvantage, for example due to flight, migration or religious background, they belong to a minority and experience fewer chances of integration in social and/or professional terms. The youth encounter and the possibilities of theater work should give them new perspectives. In the project, young people with disabilities, behavioral problems or other special needs were consciously involved and supported. Young people who, for example, B. due to the different types of schools, especially those with a special education or special education character, who spend their everyday life in separate groups should be integrated with one another. The participants should get to know the situations of young people in Europe. They should get to know each other and exchange ideas about their own identities, affiliations and problems. They should expand their knowledge of art and culture in Europe and practice intercultural learning. They should experience similarities and differences in intercultural dialogue and discover the cultural diversity in Europe. The possibilities, opportunities and limitations that Europe offers should be examined more closely. The aim was to sensitize young people to improving the situation and harmonization in Europe. They should become aware of ideas and reality, meaning and opportunities, advantages and disadvantages and their own participation in Europe. Young people should be able to see themselves as an essential part of a plural and democratic Europe. Young people should also be given the opportunity to engage in workshops and/or theater work with current issues and discussions taking place within the European Union, such as flight and migration, populism, digitalization of the social sphere, basic values.
