This project was a 9-day semi-outdoor PDA held during the period of 20-30th June 2023, in Bakuriani/Borjom-Khargauli National Park, Georgia. The project brought together 24 youth workers, youth leaders, teachers, trainers, and educators from 6 different organizations from Germany, Croatia, Romania, Estonia, Georgia, Ukraine, and Armenia to discuss the current challenges and issues of young people in Europe, specifically in the context of the global pandemic and its side effects such as lack of quality social interactions, over digitalization of every aspect in daily life, (E.g. Online Schooling, Home officing, etc.) tension and anxiety, at times, fragile mental state, etc. In addition, this project is to explore and enhance the role of youth work and youth workers in this process and introduce Outdoor Adventure Education as a relevant, effective, sustainable, and engaging alternative methodology for Youth work and education and training of young people. Thus, the main aim of the project was to raise the quality and outreach of youth work by training representative youth workers and promoting more healthy, sustainable, up-to-date, and learner-centered practices in youth work. The project set the following objectives: - To explore and share current challenges of young people in Europe in the (post-) pandemic period and identify effective and relevant steps that youth workers and educators can apply in their work to respond to these challenges; - To promote Outdoor Adventure Education as an effective, healthy, and sustainable learning methodology in education and youth work; (With a specific focus on its “multi-layer potential,” including stress reduction, mental hygiene, physical wellbeing, etc.) - To explore and cultivate the potential and value of using nature in the process of young people's learning and personal development; - To discuss and acknowledge the role of youth work and youth workers, especially in the context of overcoming current crises; (E.g. pandemic and climate change;) - To improve participants’ soft skills and competencies relevant to their work with young people; - To improve basic hard skills (trip planning, safety & first aid, risk management, etc.) needed for running educational activities within the OAE framework; - To explore further possibilities of growing network and cooperation on this topic within the framework of Erasmus + program and beyond; The methodology of the PDA was based on the principles of non-formal education, Outdoor Adventure Education, and Experiential Learning. The program provided extensive theoretical inputs alongside authentic outdoor experience for hands-on practice. This enabled participants not only to participate in the learning process fully but also to take more active ownership and responsibility for their experience and learning.
