Objectives

With our project, we aimed to empower youth workers to act as mentors for young entrepreneurs. We offered an opportunity for youth workers to learn how to think like entrepreneurs and build their own start-ups. During the project, the participants learned how to teach young people what it took to successfully start a company. Over the span of the course, we taught them several aspects of starting a business: - How to evaluate an idea - How to evaluate the market opportunity - How to build the first product/service - How to write a business plan - How to calculate the funding Each session focused on one aspect of the process and offered the participants valuable insights on the structure each step required. We focused on participants coming from countries and areas which had a high unemployment rate among 18-30-year-olds. The main aim of the project was to increase the quality of youth work services for young people with fewer opportunities by equipping youth workers with the competencies necessary for the development of entrepreneurship start-up ideas and projects. The project was based on an intensive learning process to reach the following objectives: • To enable participants to go through a process of development of entrepreneurship projects and reflect on its different steps; • To gain understanding of how to do entrepreneurship projects and how to make them relevant to the needs of young people with fewer opportunities; • To increase knowledge of the background to entrepreneurship (theory, concepts, steps, philosophy); • To raise awareness about the opportunities that nature itself gave us; • To tackle the hurdles of becoming a self-employed entrepreneur and teach the participants to discover market niches and opportunities in their local communities. • To develop practical skills in designing and implementing entrepreneurship projects; • Raising awareness and understanding about the challenges that young people with fewer opportunities experienced; • Introducing tools regarding how enterprises tackled societal problems in respect to young people with fewer opportunities; • To motivate and guide youth workers to undertake and utilize entrepreneurship as a force for eco-change; • To introduce necessary tools to youth workers on how to find innovative ways of tackling social problems in respect to young people with fewer opportunities. This way, young people could develop projects or new businesses that tackled concrete issues and, at the same time, had the capacity to generate resources necessary for the continuity of their initiatives. Entrepreneurship was one of the best ways of contributing to the socio-economic development of our region in a sustainable way, through youth self-employment and job creation, through developing products and services with a positive impact or orienting the profits.
