Objectives

Through the project, we wanted to educate ourselves transnationally on the topic of right-wing populism and to learn and practice counter-strategies. Through an exchange of good practice methods, we designed low-threshold offers for our organizations. With the help of these offerings, we want to sensitize young people, some of whom have disadvantaged access to other formats of political education, about right-wing populism. The results will be published in a brochure.

Background

We encounter right-wing ideas in our everyday life and at work. In youth work, this happens for example in personal conversations during open meetings. Sometimes it can also be observed as a dynamic between young people. As such, racism plays a role, also among young people affected by racism themselves. We also observe a shift from traditional right-wing radicalism to right-wing populist attitudes. The rise of right-wing forces across Europe and the increasing distance of many people from the democratic system show that a greater effort in the social and political sphere is needed to prevent these developments. Accordingly, an emphasis on the political in youth work is just as necessary as the development of offers that address this area. In this regard, youth recreational facilities are particularly suitable due to their open structures: Young people do not have to fulfill any access requirements in order to participate. Through this project, we were able to provide and further develop strategies and methods for the participating organizations that sensitize young people to right-wing populism and encourage them to think critically.
