Objectives

The overall strategic goal of the project was to strengthen the school's internationalization and the opportunity to educate our students for a more European future. With the Erasmus+ programme, we want to meet the need to promote personal development, better and deeper knowledge of being an EU citizen and the importance of mastering 1 or more of the approved languages within the EU. Our program supports students' knowledge of other EU countries' culture, social structures, history and their own role in the EU. We have therefore set the following goals for the project: Objectives 1 Strengthening the students' language skills and cultural insight Objective 2: Improving the students' personal competences, independence, courage and ambitions. Objective 3: Greater understanding of international cooperation/trade across European borders as well as better understanding of one's own international opportunities and limitations.

Background

SESG is a fusion school that offers different youth programs in South Funen, Denmark. We have applied for the Erasmus+ project for activities at our HHX department, where we have approx. 400 students. SESG is a small high school in the suburbs that is challenged by competition and a weak economy. With fewer electives offered, there is a need for supplementary learning environments for the students. This has made it necessary for us to apply for Erasmus support to be able to develop and offer activities where both students and teachers can develop personal and professional skills. Our students are aged 15-21. Many come from uneducated, middle-income families, living in rural areas and in the suburbs. Some of these are characterized as "particularly at risk of dropping out", they only encounter foreign languages in the classroom and subsequently are deprived of international experiences. Therefore, many students would benefit from overseas travel in order to hear and practice the language as well as experience foreign cultures and gain an understanding of the EU as a common reference.
