Objectives

This project was created in order to enrich and expand the possibilities of cultural formation of youngsters living on archipelagic islands by means of creating an exchange process that uses artistic and cultural production to educate the participants and staff in non-formal learning to overcome the barriers that comes from an upbringing in rural, non-bridged and archipelagic island communities, to adapt to sustainable values to enhance the habitability of the island, to give ingredients for a good life and support young persons in their everyday life, as well as to use local cultural heritage on an everyday life scale as possibilities of youth participation that have been lacking until now. Objectives where met by building up a capacity among the youngsters and staff themselves to make independent decisions and create possibilities on their own by creating a project that made possible international linkages and partnerships to similar geographical locations that might share and deal with some of the same premises, as a means of starting up a cultural exchange and development process. The overall methodology was therefore, to give the youth a possibility to develop their cultural formation through mirroring their own situation and by giving and receiving input with other groups of youth that share the unique socio-economic and cultural background of an archipelagic upbringing. By establishing a partnership between Viften and LAG Nouseva Rannikkoseutu + the municipal community of Hailuoto, the goal was to achieve these objectives by creating a project of physical exchanges of groups of youngsters to each island, as well as preparing them between each exchange trip through online workshops related to the content of the physical exchange. 3 of these workshops were held prior to each physical exchange trip. During the project lifetime, the activities of AYE has been serving as beneficial to the ongoing political development of youth culture as a priority in the political agenda at the municipal level of the participating countries, and helped giving birth to a new era in the participating organisations role as a key provider and representative organization of youth culture. It has been the ambition, that the participating organizations gained important experience in creating future projects within an Erasmus+ framework, as well as developed a profile within an important network of European youth culture. Furthermore, the project has been set to be integrated with similar projects and networks. Especially, on the lack of a specific youth dimensions in these networks the project has been seen as an opportunity for a platform of dealing with the formation of archipelagic youth culture. FX. as can be seen below, the LAG Nouseva Rannikkoseutu has been using this in ao. dissemination activities to external networks and cooperators.
