This Youth Exchange (YE) brought together 39 participants who entered a personal journey to develop awareness and understanding of sexism and gender disparities in their societies and their role in it. By getting away from their environment and lifestyles, participants set new rules and took collective decisions with people that had different worldviews and understanding of realities. They have been able to process their own behaviours and to pinpoint sexist behaviours in their everyday life. YE's “Gender Talks and Nature Walks” main aims were the following: 1. To have enabled participants to understand sexism as an obstacle for a peaceful/nonviolent society and Europe by growing in an intercultural environment propitious for experience sharing and learning. 2. To have encouraged active citizenship, by demonstrating youngsters the ability they hold to impact the society and encouraging them to participate actively in the community by giving them the command of activities and facilitating actions about sexism. 3. To have shown the local communities how Youth Exchange projects can affect and mobilize youth around this important societal topic and provide clear and realistic solutions to everyday life issues by involving citizens directly on the issues they are facing. 4. To have encouraged and supported intercultural bridging to raise awareness about the complexity of personal identity, and deconstruct stereotypes and prejudices. This activity will have strengthened the partnership between youth work organizations on an international level that shares common ethics and practices, and aims to encourage the development of soft skills to help each individual to be an active citizen.
