The project addressed the need for equipping youth workers with tools and methods for dealing with unexpected challenges, unforeseen situations and overall times of uncertainty by applying principles of change management and creative problem solving. We came to the idea of creating it during the first COVID-19 lockdown as a response to the atmosphere of uneasiness and stress. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected deeply every sphere of our life, but at the same time it has demonstrated how important it is for each of us, no matter field of work, to be prepared mentally and practically for change that might come tomorrow. And when talking specifically about youth work and youth NGO life, we believe that the way to go is not in focusing on uncertainty and unpredictability, but in teaching youth workers how to survive and navigate them. We believe that focusing on creativity, flexibility, and adaptability while learning how to use change as an opportunity for growth is the approach to choose. The idea of this project came to us while discussing with our Spanish partners how the situation was affecting the activities and day by day operations in our organisations. Since the level of unpredictability was not going down, we agreed that the optimal solution is to research more into positive aspects of change and practical tools to mitigate the damage. We have good expertise specifically in the creative tools of change management, so we rooted our ideas in theory. Since discussing our approaches online is quite a usual practice for us, we have with time identified tools and ideas that definitely have great value specifically for youth work in times of change. Several other partners soon joined in on these discussions, showing that there is a big demand for such an expertise. After discussing with several other partners who also showed great motivation to work with this topic, we have agreed on the vision, philosophy, methodology and overarching aims of the project. Aim: to equip youth workers with knowledge and tools of decision making and creative problem solving applicable in times of change and uncertainty. Objectives: To present the concept and principles of Change Management and how it can be used in youth work To learn how to use creativity and flexibility to solve arising problems and design innovative solutions To equip youth workers with specific tools of creative problem solving and decision making (6 thinking hats, Morphological analysis, 7 types of brainstorming, SCAMPER, etc.) To let youth workers practice gained knowledge and skills with focus on decision making and creative problem solving in changing environments To support youth workers in creating unique solutions and strategies of youth work for their organisations
