Nowadays people working with young people from different cultural backgrounds, face many challenges and they are not prepared enough to work in intercultural environment. It is essential to develop and improve our intercultural competences with emphasis on intercultural sensitiveness because we don’t have to travel to another country to face different culture, different cultures come to us, and different cultures are around us. We have to learn to handle our fears and learn to understand, tolerate and accept each other and to learn to live together. This is especially true about youth workers, because they have to be prepared to provide support for young people, they work with to become intercultural sensitive for each other to go through the phases of intercultural sensitiveness and understand each other’s reactions. Milton J. Bennett made a fantastic theory called the Developmental Model of intercultural sensitiveness which can be used in youth work and put it in practice in everyday lives and work of youth workers. The academic model can be adapted to youth work activities which gives an opportunity for youth workers to support young people to understand each other’s and improve their abilities to function together even they represent a Muslim and a Jewish family. The main aim of the training course ‘Ladder of Intercultural Sensitivity’ was to train youth workers and educators to use the Milton J. Bennett model in their daily work and lives in order to improve their intercultural competence to work with different target groups e.g. minorities, immigrants, Roma young people, etc. The concept of the eight phases of the model were acquired by the youth workers and also, they learned about methods, tools, and techniques how to support young people from different cultural background to reach the certain phase or go forward to the next phase e.g. youth exchanges, volunteering, and training in order to improve intercultural competences of young people on European level according to the proposals of Erasmus +. We can outline the following main objectives of the project ‘Ladder of Intercultural Sensitivity’: - Develop competencies of youth workers and educators to deliver youth activities in intercultural sensitive environment; - Increase competencies of youth worker and educators to apply the theory of Milton J.
