Objectives

The aim of the Youth Democracy Festival is to increase young people's democratic confidence and power in the democracy. We want to increase young people courage to express themselves, and we want to increase decision makers and people in power positions’s courage to grant power to the youth and take into account the opinions of young people. Young people's democratic confidence is strengthened through the meeting with organisations and activities, where they can express opinions and experience that they are taken seriously and can act on opinions. At the festival we have tried to inspire young people to engage further in civic society and other youth organisations. Additionally, the increased democratic confidence and engagement can lead to more youth led initiatives locally, nationally and on European levels. The 50 organisations that participated in the 2022 version of The Youth Democracy Festival and the many decision makers have gained a unique insight into young people's opinions and ideas for the future of society. This will enable them to make decisions on a wellgrounded foundation, in connection to young people. Our work with accessibility We want The Youth Democracy Festival to be accessible for all young people. That is why we have created a number of accessibility efforts to make a welcoming and inclusive festival for young people with disabilities. In 2022, we have secured an accessible and manageable festival site as well as accessible content and program, where all young people have the same prerequisites to be able to participate. UFM must be a platform where all young people have the opportunity to participate and take an active part in democracy. In order to include young people with functional impairments, we have over the years collaborated with various actors with expertise in accessibility, e.g. the Association of People with Disabilities (SUMH). The youth power event The aim of the event was to spread knowledge and messages from young people after the festival, and to inspire young people to concrete action and create new insights. By organizing events throughout the year, we reach more young people, whom we would like to bring to the festival, and we ensure that the messages from young people reach more relevant groups.
