The primary objective was to develop new innovative educational material and tools for teachers of nature, science and technology subjects. Our secondary objective was to educate, engage and raise awareness on climate challenges, science, technology, environment subjects through fisheries industry for pupils to become green changemakers of the future.
We saw a need for schools and teachers to get some new tools, knowledge and inspiration to incorporate environmental topics into their curriculum. We also saw an interesting cross-over between the fishing industry and the younger generation. In our opinion, the fishing industry holds a lot of 'green' promise which is not fully realized - and the industry in general is also quite overlooked which means that Danish teachers also don't know much about the industry or how to teach about it. The younger generation is interested in sustainability, climate change, ocean protection, green technology etc. but is often sceptical or at least un-educated when it comes to the fishing industry. We felt that school teachers could use the fishing industry as a complex case to discuss SDG, climate change, ocean management, food security and also social and demographical issues.
