The objectives of "Get a Life!" were: a) To collect best practices and create new material about support for young people´s transition into adulthood, as well as about the method of coaching and to create Get a Life! online toolbox. (A3 Toolbox production, A1 project management) b) To train NGO youth workers to use the toolbox so that they use the toolbox with young people. (A4 Training course, A1 project management) c) To disseminate the Get a Life! Toolbox to youth workers at youth organisations, municipalities, schools and institutions. (A5 multiplying activities) d) To build a European network of youth organisations for cross-national collaboration and good practice sharing. (A4 Training course, A1 project management, A2 project meetings, general cooperation in with project partners and associated partners) We wanted to achieve creating a platform which would invite and open the discussion of bridging the gap in the support the society is currently offering to young people entering adulthood. In addition to that, we wanted to create a Toolbox for organisations, youth workers and young people which would offer some tangible solutions for offering this kind of support in a more empowering, sustainable, self-directed ways.
The project Get a Life! was created because we noticed a mismatch between what the traditional education system offers and what young people are missing to build stable, informed, fulfilling lives. We addressed the following needs: - understanding the importance of youth organisations and youth workers in supporting youth into adulthood - further cooperation between organisations on local, national, European levels - defining the changing role of youth workers in supporting youth post-pandemic - a need for concrete, easy to use thematically relevant materials to support and develop the work of youth workers, youth organisations and young people independently - changing needs of the young people and how to create more inclusive and diverse learning experiences using non-formal education and coaching as a method - the young people’s need for support in identity work, self-leadership, defining their strengths, building understanding of responsibilities and rights of adults, planning ahead/creating a vision for their lives - increased need to understand the diversity of youth and how to celebrate/navigate it - empowering young people to participate in the decision-making processes of our society and understand their role as citizens
