General objective: This project aimed at raising awareness amongst young people on issues such as plastic pollution of the rivers and seas and exchange good practices between countries with high relevance such as Denmark and Romania. Specific objective: 1. Identified 9 good practices on these issues carried out in different European countries. 2. Developed awareness-raising tools and activities on waste management and water pollution for young people. 3. Developed proposals for public awareness-raising actions involving young people in their creation. 4. Compiled these good practices, tools, and actions into a comprehensive guide for youth workers and facilitators. 5. Implemented locally the activities included in the above-mentioned guide with 10 young people per country (30 in total). 6. Shared the guide with at least 60 youth workers and facilitators working in the environmental protection field.
At current rates, plastic is expected to outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050. Additionally to being one of the greatest threats to marine biodiversity, affecting entire marine ecosystems, water pollution affects our health in many different ways. The Communication on the European Green Deal for the European Union identifies the zero-tolerance approach to marine plastic pollution as a priority. While this issue is on the one hand being tackled at a policy level by the European Union’s institutions, the partner organisations of the EYES project complemented this effort by designing and implementing activities in countries such as Denmark and Romania, working with youth in coastal cities such as Iasi and Copenhagen to raise awareness on these issues. 1.Youth in coastal areas: This project promoted critical thinking, initiative, and leadership by raising awareness of plastic pollution and guiding public actions. 2.Youth workers and educators: They utilized a handbook with good practices, tools, and recommendations for youth-led public actions via exhibitions, conferences, concerts, and videography. 3.Climate and environmental activists: Gained ideas from best practices and public events to engage youth in climate action.
