In recent years, THMK has begun teaching autistic children using the TEACCH method since elementary grades. Teaching all subjects in a structured way helps students to master the rhythm of their learning, and learning according to algorithms helps them organize their thinking and understanding of the subject. Learners according to this method are nearing the 6th grade. Elementary school third in terms of level subjects, there is no previous experience in using structured study materials, teachers do not know if and how to use structured learning in different subjects. Usually, by this time, students who have been studying in our school for a long time and getting used to the system, as well as those who came later from ordinary schools, are in class together. With the help of this knowledge, we can create new training materials and tools. We have set our project as goals 1. Increase in competence in teaching students with autism spectrum disorders and experience of emotional trauma and developing a supportive learning environment 2. New structured learning materials for the training of autistics 3. At school, diversified active learning and new, learning through play, learning are used.
Tartu Herbert Masingu School is a school for students with special educational needs (SEN) due to different health conditions. THMK is aimed at students with autism spectrum disorder, activity and attention disorder, emotional disorder, mood disorder and somatic diseases, as well as mobility impairments. At school, studies are conducted on the basis of the national curriculum from grades 1 to 12. An individual curriculum is drawn up for all students and is "Tailor-made", taking into account the specifics of each student. The number of educators in the school is about 150, but over the years it is constantly growing, but also rapidly changing. In order to teach HEV students, teachers must have a lot of knowledge in special pedagogy, as well as a lot of different experience and knowledge on how to approach each student individually, create a cooperative and working atmosphere. There is a lot of work-related stress in school, and some teachers do not withstand such mental and physical stress.
