With the implementation of this project we wanted to shine some light onto the topics of media literacy, what to trust on the internet and how to detect fake news and fake media online. It was important to us to make the young people be more aware of how the media, which is surrounding them and also impacting their daily life, behaviors and well-being. Also, to raise more awareness and skills on critical thinking while consuming and navigating through the digital media in a healthy way. The idea of this project was not only to focus on the negative side of media, but also to highlight the clearly beneficial and positive sides of media and other networks as well. In addition, we also strived for the knowledge and skills on communication, especially in international settings. Providing the youth with this kind of international environment, we gave them a place to develop deeper skills and knowledge of this universal ability, which they can apply in various fields in one’s life. The aims and objectives of this youth exchange were to gain knowledge on both positive and negative sides of social media usage and digital gadgets; to improve skills and information about international communication; critical thinking and attitude towards social media considering fake realities, and fake news; to understand social media impact on mental health and the pressure of achieving unrealistic goals; better awareness on cyber-safety and healthier habits considering digital gadgets and media usage. All of these topics were involved by giving the young people a platform and a voice by being gathered together and tackling those subjects. In addition, we provided the participants with great information about Erasmus+ opportunities and non-formal education’s methods. The project’s topics were also connected to various priorities of EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027. This way, the participants could also grasp onto the privileges of being a citizen of Europe. For example, what does it look like being civically engaged in a democratic system, while having the perks of human rights principles.
