Objectives

The 3rd Primary School of Dionysos had as priorities the cultivation of a culture of inclusion/acceptance of diversity, the strengthening of students' environmental awareness and the digital turn of infrastructures and skills. Specifically, the following goals were set: 1. Specialization of the educational staff and enhanced awareness of the school community in matters of inclusion and integration, in order to have a greater understanding and acceptance of social and cultural diversity in the school and prevent phenomena of labelling, isolation and bullying of students with special needs. 2. Educating the new generation and building capacities to face the challenges of climate change and adopt a sustainable lifestyle. In order to cultivate/strengthen the students' ecological consciousness, it was deemed necessary to train teachers in sustainability issues, according to the standards of countries with experience and successful implementation of corresponding programs. 3. Digital upgrading of infrastructures, skills and learning environments, with the goal of improving information/data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital safety, innovation and effective integration of new digital tools in the educational procedure.

Background

The 3rd Primary School of Dionysos has several children with learning difficulties, which became more apparent during the Covid-19 pandemic and the forced application of distance education in all schools. In addition, lately the students have been experiencing the devastating consequences of intense natural phenomena and woodfires to the natural environment. Recognizing the need to improve the teaching staff in these 3 areas (inclusion and acceptance of diversity, environment/sustainability and digital transition), the School prepared and submitted for approval the project "Creating the conditions for an Inclusive, Digital, Ecological School in the post-Covid-19 era". The proposed project is directly related to the identified needs of the 3rd Primary School of Dionysos, as the utilization of the acquired knowledge and experience in the school will contribute to the formation of a culture of inclusion and acceptance throughout the school community, to the strengthening of the students' ecological consciousness, to the gradual reduction of the digital skills deficit, as well as to an effective integration of innovative digital tools in the educational process, for a more engaging, more collaborative and interactive learning process.
