Objectives

The BLOOM work plan, in the context of this Erasmus+ program, was prepared in relation to the indicators we wanted to improve in our school unit, in the context of the self-evaluation. We wanted to promote the professional development of the teachers and the learning opportunities of the students, with an emphasis on the acquisition of learning methodologies concerning the "next day" - after three years of European programs - in our school. That is, we sought the targeted specialization of teachers in teaching tools and inclusion of the groups that choose our school (Roma, students with special needs), creating diversity classes, and the mobility of students for intensive attendance of short-term courses abroad. To this end, we have chosen to work with a) educational organizations that provide the expertise to teach in classrooms with a diverse student population b) a foreign primary school with an adult education structure and c) a public language school for adults. In order to achieve our goal, we decided that teachers attended seminars on "student centered education" and "diversity and inclusion" in order to improve ourselves and provide better learning environment for our students by respecting their needs.

Background

The 1st Evening High School of Patras is a school with students of various ages and educational backgrounds where the classes are heterogeneous. Among students, Roma students face the highest school failure, students with special needs receive the least specialized care, and adult students lag behind in foreign languages and digital literacy. The teachers in our organization were not trained to teach in classrooms with such diversity. The current project helped them develop tools for school diversity management and the inclusion of Roma and disabled students. In addition, it enhanced the professional profile of teachers as they introduced new methodologies for teaching and learning English, computer skills, etc. At the same time, it improved the educational profile of students invited to study English abroad/in a European environment. Our students were also given significant opportunities to develop knowledge, as well as practical skills for the 21st century, which will accompany them throughout their lives. Educators significantly improved the provision of a safe learning and teaching environment by supporting and integrating diversity, inclusion and student-centred education, making learning engaging and long-lasting.
