Objectives

The purpose of the teachers' participation in this mobility refers to their training in two new teaching methods, the 'Flipped Classroom' and the 'Project Based Learning'. The ‘Flipped Classroom’ changes radically the traditional way of learning moving the lecture out of the classroom. The students ‘watch’ the lecture material on a short video at home, they study it and during the lesson at school they perform consolidation tasks both individually and in groups. Thus, the classroom time is spent more on learning activities suitably adjusted to the students’ individual learning needs. The ‘Project Based Learning’ is one of the methodologies which contributes to the development of the 21st century critical skills, such as collaboration, communication and critical thinking. The students are engaged in research activities in order to solve a problem, to answer a question or to deal with a challenge at hand.

Background

Our plan entitled 'Integration of new teaching methods in the teaching practice' concerns the training of a group of our teaching staff in the field of new teaching approaches utilizing the New Technologies, in order to integrate them into the curriculum. It is a plan drawn up as a result of pedagogical discussions with the teaching staff in our school and responds to our need to improve the quality of the teaching/ learning practice in class by focusing on the students' individual learning needs and competences, along with the development of critical life skills. The integration of the new methods into the school lessons using various digital tools will allow us to be more effective in tackling our students' diverse learning profiles and backgrounds.
