The main objectives of the project were to: 1. Educate the staff on the values of the sustainable school, in order to create a democratic school based on freedom, justice and mutual respect. Also, in his further pedagogical training, to reform the educational process with innovative methods. 2. Educate our teachers on the good practices of European schools and institutions with the aim of sustainable development, in order to create a school that operates with respect for the environment and the members of the school community. In addition, with their training teachers can recognize the factors that trigger or delay sustainable development. 3. Connect the school with the local community, so that environmental and cultural issues that concern the region are highlighted. 4. Develop the staff’s skills so they will help the integration of our school into the European network of sustainable schools.
The specific project was implemented in order our school to acquire an orientation related to sustainability. By planning the activities, we trained the educational staff, so that in the near future they will work in a European school, which, with respect to the principles of intercultural education, takes care to adapt to the new needs that sustainability and the circular economy dictate. The General High School of Intercultural Education of Sapon (abbreviation GEL DE Sapon) is a public school that πrovides general school education to students aged 15-18. Students after completing the three years of studies receive a Level 4 diploma of the National Qualifications Framework. The subjects taught in our school are largely aligned with the content and focus of our project. The students of the school participate in European and cultural/environmental programmes with a variety of themes. Also, most of them come from rural and semi-urban families so the fields of the environment and the circular economy is a matter of concern to them due to the impact of climate change directly and indirectly on the basic economic activities of their families.
