As mentioned above, the organisation initially identified a number of needs. With the specific mobilities we aimed to cover some of these needs. As a special needs school, we experience difficulties and challenges in our daily life. So, we aimed to get skills on a European level that would make us more effective in our workplace, with the ultimate goal of benefiting our children. So, we decided to acquire design skills, inclusion practices and techniques of creativity, imagination and improvisation in special needs education.
Our school is the only secondary school of special needs education on the island of Kalymnos. The majority of the students are on the autism spectrum, but also we also attend to children with low intelligence or with psycho-emotional needs complex. The educational staff, the special educational and auxiliary staff under the management of the Principle cooperated, discussed and recorded the needs we face every day. Always through democratic dialogue, we prioritised our needs to find ways and techniques to better organise the educational process, but also to introduce techniques and innovations that will promote inclusion, improvisation and creativity.
