Objectives

The main priorities of our plan were the following three: 1. Given the lack of previous experience in European programs, we aimed at acquiring extroversion and cultivating a European identity in teachers and students. We want to have a modern, human-centered and not sterile exam-centered school, with people who recognize the added value that the European dimension gives to education and who desire their continuous personal and professional development. 2.In a constantly changing society we could not remain simple observers of the digital evolution, so we aimed through our plan at the digital literacy of teachers and students, so that the educational process would become more attractive. Innovative methods and practices have been adopted through modern digital tools and platforms and everyone is bound to be prepared for the new digital era in order to expand their professional prospects in the future. 3. Another key priority of our plan was the integration of environmental education into everyday school practice. In a period of serious climate crisis, it is not possible for us not to be aware of issues of sustainable development.

Background

The 1st General High School of Echedorou is located in Sindos, which is the industrial area of Thessaloniki, has 200 students and 18 teachers and basically prepares students for the national exams in order to ensure their access to Higher Education. Beyond this, however, the main concern of the school is to cultivate in the students the consciousness of the active citizen, who is interested in the common good, who is aware of contemporary problems, works with empathy and acceptance of the "other", is not limited to narrow geographical borders but is aware of the power of a united Europe, with all the distinct characteristics of each nation. Our first European KA1 project was implemented in order to upgrade the overall quality of the education provided, for teachers and students to gain experience in matters of European culture and networking, to bridge differences that arise from the heterogeneity of our students, to involve even the most introverted or indifferent students in various actions beyond the usual framework of school activities, to make our school a point of reference in matters of European extroversion, collaboration, integration, democratic participation and digital transformation.
