The basic principles that govern our school are respecting the diversity of students and providing equal learning opportunities to all of them. By participating in this project, teachers will gain knowledge and experience regarding inclusive practices applied in other European countries. The main challenges that the teachers of our school face every day are managing a multicultural classroom and ensuring equal access to the education of students with varying educational abilities. The improvement of the provided education will be accomplished due to the training of teachers and the comparison of different educational systems, something beneficial for all the students of the school without any distinctions. If teachers gain new ideas, knowledge, and experiences on innovative programs they will become more effective in providing quality education to all the students of our school without exception.
The students who attend the Primary School of Avdira present diversity in relation to their learning characteristics (origin, language, religion, learning profile). Students may belong to the Muslim minority, be immigrants or returnees, and also students with special educational needs/disabilities. The students of the above groups coexist in the classrooms of our school and are invited to follow the same curriculum. The teachers of the school adapt the content of the lessons, the teaching methods, and the goals they set responding to the different needs of their students. Therefore, the participation of our school in this project will give teachers the opportunity to train on the principles of inclusive education and, at the same time, to get in touch with innovative programs applied in other educational systems, aiming at the adoption of concepts and the formation of a school for all.
