Objectives

The main areas we focused on targeting in our application were: a) the training in modern teaching practices, which will leave the books and the sterile provided knowledge and will aim at the development of abilities and skills (indicatively through the Skills Workshops) b) introducing innovations in the educational process and teaching students with modern tools and practices. Our main aim is to tackle low literacy and school dropout. More specifically, our school identified the following needs: - Adoption of innovative educational methods in the classroom, and exchange of good practices with schools foreign. - Development of a strategic plan to deal with insufficient literacy. - Development of a strategic plan to reduce school dropout - Managing the educational and student potential and strengthening the team-collaborative approach - Interculturally oriented classroom management. In order to implement the above, we pursued the need for training: 1)) in working through projects in combination with STEM education and 2) in a framed and organized teaching practice regarding climate change, and awareness in environmental conservation

Background

The 7th Primary Scholl of Keratsini is located in a densely populated urban area of the wider Piraeus. They are students aged 6-12. Among them are people with multicultural backgrounds and financial difficulties. Additionally, 15% of the student population has diagnosed problems (ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties). In this school context - combined with the socio-economic - political circumstances - teachers are invited to attract the interest and ensure the active participation of students. There is a constant search for renewed methods aimed at motivating students. Therefore we chose to focus on two areas to improve our educational practices, and these were: 1) the application of the project method in STEM subjects and 2) the further deepening of teaching methods for a green future and climate change.
