A first priority and need of our school is the integration of all students into the school community. Because the school's teachers had no previous targeted training on similar topics, they expressed a desire to attend a training seminar related to the inclusion of minorities in the school community. Through attending the ICI Intercultural Iceland seminar, the teachers took part in experiential workshops as trainees and as future teachers. A second priority and need of the school is the prevention of school violence and dealing with delinquency. The majority of the school's students have very good behavior but there is a percentage of students who show indifference to the learning process and are involved in school violence and bullying as well as confrontational incidents. For this reason, the teachers' association decided to proceed with the training of a group of teachers who attended the targeted seminar of the Teachers Academy in Berlin, with the aim of acting as multipliers for their colleagues both in terms of preventing and dealing with phenomena of violence in the school life.
625 children study at the 2nd EPAL of Evosmos, of which 10 are Roma, 2 refugee children, 11 children who need immediate psychological support, as well as 84 students with diagnosed learning difficulties. Also, it is one of the very few EPAL (6) throughout Greece in which an Integration Department operates. According to the strategic plan, the priorities of the school concern the improvement of school performance and the social behavior of students, ensuring a safe and friendly learning environment, supporting individual needs due to diversity, opening the school to the local community and the European dimension of the school, through the systematic participation in European programs. At the same time, the educational staff of the school, well qualified scientifically and pedagogically, needs training and updating of teaching practices and pedagogical methods for the successful realization of all the above. Therefore, the present program, focusing on issues of intercultural education, cooperative learning, inclusion, dealing with conflicts and school violence and bullying, was a necessary means of pedagogic-learning and social development of the 2nd EPAL Evosmos.
