Objectives

Our goal was to create a culture of change within our school by incorporating innovative educational strategies and new teaching tools in our curriculum, by enriching teacher’s knowledge in the field of Special education and by implementing organizational and evaluative strategies, as well as giving constant feedback in order to achieve progress and to enhance our students’ knowledge even further. Sub- objectives were firstly, to shape the environment and create the conditions to raise awareness and make a change of culture happen, inside and outside the school. Secondly, to empower teachers and paraprofessionals to incorporate new innovative educational strategies and to implement new teaching and guiding approaches with their students. Also, upgrade their digital skills and add them in their classroom teaching. Improve their assessment, evaluation and self-evaluation strategies as well as their feedback style in order to have more concrete results and track student’s progress more effectively.

Background

EEEEK of Levadia is a public secondary school for students with mild and severe learning disabilities. Lessons are both theoretical and in practice. Teaching focuses on students’ professional training in pastry, gardening and art in the school’s workshops. Teachers in cooperation with school’s paraprofessionals (psychologist, social worker, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, school nurse) support students through their everyday learning and teach them important social and life skills in order to be fully included in society and afterwards in the working field. Student’s age is 14 to 22 years old and this year EEEK accommodates 35 SEND students. Half of them are in the autistic Spectrum and the rest of them face other difficulties such as mental retardation, hemiplegia, quadriplegic and other syndromes. Students come from a diverse socio-economical background and learning opportunities outside of school are limited.
