Objectives

The aim of the program was to train our teachers in new technologies and modern teaching methods (Gamefication through AR and VR). These teachers will work as multipliers for the wider mobilization of teachers and spread in the our school routine, resulting in the improvement of the provided educational work to the students and especially students with special learning characteristics or language difficulties, while reducing school dropout. The new methods are completely digital. This will have a positive impact both on the modernization of the educational work, but also on the improvement of our teachers skills and competences. Moreover, it will have a positive impact on the ecological footprint of our school, as the use of printed teaching aids will be limited, as well as the use of markers or chalkboards.

Background

Our school unit, as VΕΤ School, has many low level and low self-esteem students. For these students the classical way of teaching is not appropriate. Even practice in the laboratories does not bring the expected outcomes, due to the lack of interest from the students, as they consider that the entrance to the labor market after their graduation will not be easy. After the lock down and long-term distance learning, a particularly large number of students have special difficulty in classical classroom learning, as they are accustomed to the use of technological means for their education. As a result, we face a major problem of indifference of an alarming increasing number of students and consequently an increased school dropout rate. Our goal is to integrate and exploit new technologies and innovative teaching methods (Gamefication via VR and AR).
