Objectives were: -To understand the basic functions and applications of CAD / CAM systems in the design and manufacturing process, the creation of parametric designs with the introduction of constraints and parametric dimensions, the concept of three-dimensional (3D) modeling using a computer and how it can be used for engineering calculations, -To acquire skills with 3D design and modeling software packages (Autodesk) and to become familiar with rapid prototyping systems, - To be able to handle the Autodesk 3D CAD package fluently in order to develop 3D models on the PC, -To be able to automate their designs with "iLogic" processes, - To achieve the automation of the tasks for the preparation of the construction plans, assemblies and components necessary for the production process, -To be able to create parametric designs by introducing constraints and parametric dimensions, -To develop their mental, communication and language skills, - To get to know the culture and history of Sicily, Italy, - To develop into Active Citizens who will think and participate in democratic life.
The rapid development of computer technology and mechanical engineering has led to the development of new product design and production techniques. The increasing competition at the international level with the parallel reduced availability of specialized personnel led the industries to adopt modern technologies. An integral part of the modern approach to the production of engineering products are CAD/CAM systems, where CAD (Computer Aided Design) means design with the help of a computer and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) means production with the help of a computer. The 1st EPAL of Athens implemented a project entitled: "Design and Modeling Mechanical Products- CAD/CAM SYSYTEMS" in order to theoretically and practically train 16 students of the field of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics in the advanced design of mechanical products.
