By implementing the project we achieved: i) to increase seniors and adult educators’ environmental competences and awareness levels, ii) to foster the professional development of educators, iii) to engage seniors in volunteering and community stewardship activities and iv) to promote intergenerational understanding to major environmental challenges.
The project was applied to develop tangible and innovative methods for improving the environmental green skills of adult learners over 65 years old, reducing their ecological footprint and promoting their life-long education and volunteering commitment to the environment and their community. Through the projects’ deliverables e.g the report on good practices, the environmental education programme and its dissemination activities, these professionals and organisations became better informed, consider implementing environmental awareness activities to a wider intergenerational audience and potentially adopt more environmentally and age friendly practices. Adults over 65 years old have limited access to knowledge and little experience on environmentally sustainable behaviour, since awareness raising campaigns and environmental education programmes had generally deprioritized and disregarded them on the basis of their age. So this project gave the opportunity to adult learners over 65 years old in 3 countries to become more aware of major environmental challenges and encouraged to change some of their daily practices towards sustainability and becoming more active in their community.
