COB is a 20 year old social cooperative which primarily started as an educational project to spread the know-how and ideology behind natural building and bioclimatic architecture guided by the safe management of resources and energy. It has expanded its activities aiming to educate young people and the general public to the importance and benefits of sustainable living, new eco-friendly building techniques, alternative energy sources, self-sufficiency, permaculture and regenerative farming. COB has been acting as an educational hub but also as a field of experimentation and practical implementation and it possesses the necessary infrastructure and vision to teach young people about all the aspects of sustainability that will help them become active, responsible citizens able to propose alternatives for the 21st century. This project consisted of a 13 day Professional development activity that was formed into a Permaculture Design Training Course, plus a 13 day Youth Exchange on the topic of self-sufficiency. We firmly believed that the full experience and real time implementation of the activities on the farm would be vital in helping young people develop realistic expectations for this kind of career and life - cultivating, in essence, a holistic view of what is termed as "sustainability". The main objectives of both project activities were to: promote the benefits of living alternatives that reduce the impact on the planet for modern living, such as eco-building, permaculture, sustainable farming, regenerative agriculture and eco-tourism; enhance the holistic development of young people by generating awareness towards climate change and environmental protection through green practices; present the participants with new opportunities in Green Sustainability, thus preventing marginalisation of young people living in Europe facing also fragile situations; promote environmental responsibility and social inclusion using a holistic approach to sustainability. In alignment with the major priorities of the European Commission and the Greek National Agency with a focus on “ Environment and Fight Against Climate Change” priority, COB organised these 2 activities to focus on: The Strategic Development of Youth in Europe and their connection with the environment. Assuring continuous work towards specific goals that help further the knowledge and position the participants in a European setting, opening up their horizons and creating channels and means for international exploration of new opportunities; The development of Environmental Sustainability and Learning in Europe and directly applied to our local reality comprised also by: a. The improvement of sustainability skills of the participants and local youth both in the areas of education and environmental sustainability; b. Furthering the development of skills, knowledge, techniques, products, etc. related to green practices, education and awareness, considering the local context but also the role of local youth in the future shaping of Europe. Boosting the role of the region of Nessonas and Greece as an important agent on change and innovation within one of the main objectives set out for the EU, working towards a greener and more inclusive Europe. This would benefit our youth in great measures, as it has great impact in upcoming generations; The Organisational Sustainability of our organisation, as a stable source of support that would allow for a long-term implementation of a more efficient road of development for our mission. COB was also motivated to impact and benefit underprivileged people and young people facing fragile situations. By repairing social bonds, displaying solidarity and cultivating skills, we support them to help their communities reach more autonomy and resilience. By teaching teamwork and community living, we aimed to go much further into actually repairing the vital social bonds that make communities thrive. The young people participating would be able to assume a primary role in this change by: developing new skills and competences in the field of Green Practices; promoting the creation of innovative tools, products and services in the field of Green Practices; helping other young people develop new skills and competences, while also developing awareness of relevant topics and a greater European positioning; working with our partners, to generate and promote the development of a networking platform where local young people can reach out to organisations and youth across Europe as equals; amplifying the reach and results of the Erasmus+ program, as well as the European mission and ideals locally, regionally, nationally and internationally; promoting future cooperation between different partners and young people during the funded period and after the project's end; further developing and supporting the activity and capacity of the organisation to contribute positively to the European Youth Goals.
