Objectives

The matter of climate change holds immense significance for both European and global communities in the present era. Concurrently, the pervasive influence of technology and social media has exacerbated ecological issues and led to increased disconnection among individuals. In this Youth Exchange, as active members of the Erasmus Student Network, we aimed at promoting environmental sustainability through outdoor living and the minimization of the use of electronic devices. This activity, named as “Earthlinks”, had the primary objective of raising awareness among young individuals regarding environmental issues. The main aim was to instill a sense of responsibility, sensitivity, and care towards the environment among the participants. With this project we wanted to encourage them to learn and implement practices such as reusing, upcycling, and recycling materials in their daily lives, as well as adopting a more moderate approach to energy consumption, the use of electronic devices, and transportation. The main issue that this project addressed, that was Environmental Sustainability, was directly linked with the KA1 and Erasmus+ priorities and specifically with the “Environment and fight against climate change”. Our Youth Exchange consisted of a mobility opportunity in green forward-looking fields, which fostered the development of competences, enhanced career prospects and engaged participants in subject areas, which are strategic for the sustainable growth of our planet, with special attention to rural development. A summary of the objectives and priorities that were met in our YE related to the Erasmus+ programme is presented below: - Promotion of learning mobility - Non-formal and informal learning - Environment and fight against climate change - Inclusion and diversity - Participation in democratic life, common values and civic engagement By engaging in outdoor activities, focused on health and well-being, the participants were expected to explore new avenues of self-development and gain better self-awareness. Through collaboration in a multicultural environment and employing informal and non-formal educational methods, the project aimed to enhance their social, cooperative, and communication skills. This approach had the goal to broaden their perspectives, foster openness, encourage acceptance of differences and diversities, ultimately reinforcing the idea of a shared European identity. Furthermore, Earthlinks aimed to contribute to the participants' professional growth by developing their organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Moreover, the project sought to promote the inclusion of marginalized young individuals, particularly those classified as NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), who encounter challenges due to social, economic, and geographical circumstances. The primary aim was to familiarize these young people with the Erasmus+ programme and enable them to participate in its opportunities. Upon completing the project, the subsequent goal was for these participants to share and promote their experiences with others, encouraging a wider reach of the program's benefits. Listed below, the objectives of Earthlinks were to: - raise environmental awareness - promote upcycling/recycling and reduction of every day waste - identify environmental problems in different countries - achieve personal and professional development through outdoor living and health & well-being activities - increase employability - promote healthy usage of electronic devices - bring 36 young people together, mostly NEETs with geographical, social and economic obstacles - enhance the participants’ skills and competences through non-formal education - raise awareness in Erasmus+ and European opportunities and enhance EU identity - exchange know-how in environmental sustainability and EU opportunities between 6 partner organisations - promote the results of the youth exchange to the stakeholders and the local community
