Our project aimed to provide youth workers with the tools they needed to handle the growing concerns of online hate speech and cyberbullying, which mostly target young immigrants and refugees. We aimed to accomplish this by generating a comprehensive database on online speech and cyberbullying, which would serve as the foundation for building a strong Toolkit. This Toolkit was created to improve the abilities of youth workers and update their approaches, allowing them to better support vulnerable groups.Furthermore, we wanted to raise the profile of digital youth work across Europe by establishing an open European e-platform. This platform would highlight best practices, increase awareness, and encourage new approaches to addressing online hate speech and cyberbullying. By promoting collaboration across four European partner nations, we hoped to improve the inclusion of young migrants and refugees, assuring their active engagement in democratic life while preserving the EU's essential ideals of freedom of expression and equality. Through these initiatives, we successfully enabled youth workers and kids alike to combat the detrimental effects of online threats, resulting in a more inclusive and united European society.
Migration has long shaped societies, with many people seeking better opportunities in the EU. However, third-country nationals faced severe integration impediments, as seen by lower employment rates, as well as difficulties in education and democratic participation. These challenges were exacerbated by online threats like as hate speech and cyberbullying, which targeted vulnerable populations including young migrants and refugees. As digitalization accelerated, young people, though highly active online, often lacked the digital literacy needed to navigate safely, making them vulnerable to online abuse. This project was initiated to address the urgent need to empower young immigrants and refugees by enhancing their inclusion in democratic processes. We successfully developed training modules for youth workers, equipping them with the digital skills necessary to effectively support these young people. Our goal was to create a safer digital environment where all youth could build skills, share experiences, and participate actively in society.
