Objectives

The project has allowed us to achieve the following objectives that we defined when designing it and which we framed in 4 different levels: At the management and organisational level, we wanted to learn about international training experiences with older people, both in management and in teaching, which would inspire the updating of the resources we currently use. Thinking about the teaching staff, we wanted to bring this group closer to other training experiences with older people, so that they could learn about other teaching methodologies and be trained in virtual teaching tools. Considering the group of student-collaborators who were already actively participating in the programme, we wanted to provide them with tools that would enable them to encourage the social participation of their colleagues and manage the different community resources, as well as bring about changes not only in the programme itself but also on a social level. Finally, we thought about students with fewer opportunities and wanted them to broaden their knowledge of Europe with an immersive mobility experience to develop a sense of community on an international level, as well as digital and multilingual competence.

Background

The project is part of the Inter-University Experience Programme (PIE) (A senior university), which is an initiative of the Regional Government of Castilla y León developed in collaboration with all public and private universities in the Community, framed within the active ageing and lifelong learning programmes, which aims to give older people the possibility of accessing culture and science as a formula for personal growth. Our objectives are to facilitate the approach of seniors to culture and science as a vehicle for the expression of experiences and knowledge, to promote the exchange of relationships and to encourage opportunities for learning and personal growth through reflection and dialogue. The UBU has 4 campuses (Burgos capital, Aranda de Duero, Miranda de Ebro and Villarcayo). The syllabus consists of 3 courses and students have the possibility of continuing enrolment as graduates once they have completed their studies. The project sought not only to internationalise the programme but, above all, to give the students the possibility of being active, critical, fully-fledged European citizens and to provide them with technological tools to face common challenges.
