Objectives

With the implementation of the project, our aim was to improve student motivation, address their individual needs, enhance academic performance, and foster a greater sense of belonging. We intended to enhance the teaching-learning process by refining our teaching approach, expanding the range of strategies and techniques, structuring teaching sessions, and introducing globalizing and flexible methodologies such as project-based learning. We also hoped to gather tools and activities to foster creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration among students, as well as promote active learning. Furthermore, we anticipated expanding our understanding of the relationship between brain function and effective learning at each stage of development and applying this knowledge to classroom life.

Background

Our project takes place within a school framework at the Infant and Primary education levels. Our school is a public school located on the island of Ibiza, situated in a town with a population of around 5000 inhabitants, according to the 2023 census. The teaching staff comprises a stable 90%, and the student body mostly resides in the same town, with a smaller percentage coming from neighboring municipalities. The project is developed in response to the needs that arose after the pandemic, as well as the new methodological challenges promoted by the new management team and the center's driving group, aimed at providing higher-quality educational sessions. After the lockdown, we faced very individualized needs from each student because each one coped with the situation differently. There were significant differences in their ability to keep up with schoolwork, and distressing health situations were experienced. We needed to regain motivation and find tools to help us improve and bridge the gap in academic performance.
