Objectives

The objectives of this project have been: 1- Internationalization of the center, giving it an European dimension and opening up the expectations of the students. 2- Improvement of the competence in the first foreign language (English) of the students, but also of the teachers. 3- Adaptation of the teaching methodology to the diversity of our students and their needs. 4- Increase of motivation towards studying that can produce, in the medium and long term, an improvement of the academic marks and a decrease in early school dropout, especially among students who present sociocultural and economic disadvantage.

Background

The IES Lucus Solis serves about 1,300 students from various locations in the region. Compulsory Secondary Education, 3 Baccalaureates; Basic Vocational Training; 3 Cycles of Intermediate Grade, 2 of Higher Grade and Secondary and Baccalaureate for adults are taught at the center. Thus, our students are extremely diverse in age and educational interests; they come from different social backgrounds, although the middle-low level predominates, mainly in secondary, where there are many unemployed families or those with economic problems. This situation was aggravated by the pandemic. Many of these families are little involved in their children's education and there is an early school dropout. This is reflected in the classrooms, where this diversity of interests and involvement are difficult to manage. Furthermore, attachment to one's own land and reluctance to open up to other cultures predominates. Many families and students do not consider the possibility of studying or working outside their environment. That is why the opening of the center as well as its internationalization are a priority. We have a proactive, critical and reflective teaching team, open to innovation, looking for a quality education
